The Art Gallery Lazar Vozarević was founded and opened in November 1973 with the exhibition of paintings and drawings by Lazar Vozarević. The gallery has two clearly separated parts: the memorial and the contemporary one.

The basic core of the gallery is the memorial part which consists of the original paintings, drawings, collages and other materials which are asssociated with the artistic creation of Lazar Vozarević.

Lazar Vozarević was born in 1925 in Sremska Mitrovica, and he died in 1968 in Belgrade. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. He lived in Paris from 1951 to 1954, from 1954 to 1956, in 1958 and in 1962. Besides painting, he worked on mosaics and illustrations. He was an associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. His works are displayed in the Art Gallery Lazar Vozarević in Sremska Mitrovica, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, Art Gallery in Cetinje and some significant collections abroad: David Rockefeller (USA), Guido Tervizan (Italy), Villa Lobos (Brazil), Philip Baudet (France), Paul Flockerman (USA), etc. Vozarević had solo exhibitions in Belgrade, Zagreb, Sremska Mitrovica, Paris, Rome, Brazil, Venice, New York, etc. Lazar Vozarević, being in the Yugoslavian national team, had his works exhibited at Paris Biennale of young Artists, the International Exhibition in Tokyo, Alexandria Biennale for Mediterranean Countries and Sao Paulo Biennial.

The second part of the gallery refers to the dynamic action in the field of the contemporary art. The gallery organizes two regular events: Sremska Mitrovica Parlour (the Parlour of Vojvodina), where the latest works of fine and applied arts and architecture of Vojvodina are prsented and the Parlour of Fine Arts of Srem where the works of local artists are displayed. So far the gallery has organized more than 160 exhibitions in its premises and about 20 exhibitions in our country and abroad.
